I have an Tab S myself the 10.5", the 8.4" is having an lot of problems with bad battery connector/connection to the motherboard, flickering and restarts is the symptom of this.
If your tab is in warranty get an repair or replacement, else some owners suggest soldering the battery wires directly to the motherboard to eliminate the problem.
Samsung knows about this problem, and has replaced the battery connector for an more heavy duty one for one owner, as i read on XDA forum, this problem affects many more 8.4" than the larger 10.5" version

I had this problem with my 8.4 about a year ago, the unit will just drain battery when it's powered off, 5% in 1hr and the % just kept jumping back and forward, so I just returned it, been without a tablet until now, got a S2 8.0, very happy with it.

I think the 8.4" get a lot more harshly treated than the 10.5" as it can be used as an phone and can fit in a pocket, and any repetitive bending of the tablet can loosen the battery connector, one 8.4" owner said that he opened his tablet and the battery connector, the part that is soldered to the motherboard had broken away, I dont know it it would fit, but don't put it in your pants pocket.

Thanks for this! Was trouble shooting for ages and this seems the most logical solution, I can now take to the repair shop in town and tell them the exact source of the problem, to save them ripping me off

I also am having same problems, tablet 14 months old. Not very happy

Thanks guys!
My 8.4 had flickering screen and re-booting himself with battery percentage jumping from 100% to 25% then back to 65% etc....
when I tried to unplug battery from terminal - the terminal just pop-out from board. I resolder it in service (it takes them just 15 minutes) now it works OK!
Thanks to all for advice what to check/fix!

Hello,
When you say re-solder, what is your meaning ?
-
I had the same issue. I sent mine in to Samsung. They replaced the LCD screen.
Waiting on it to be mailed back to see if it is fixed. Fingers crossed.

Mine does it too

I don't have the problem as long as it is plugged in to the charger. This points me to a problem with the battery. Time for me to crack the case open

This happened to my S8.4 so I searched for a solution and came up with the following:
Note solution 3 worked for me but if you are still in the warranty period you may lose it
Galaxy tab s 8.4 is acting weird when I use it, it gets lines and glitches on the screen and restarting by itself.

1. go to to developer options then turn on hardware overlay

2. Wipe Cache Partition - Samsung Galaxy TabŪ S
a. Ensure the device is powered off.
Note If the device is unresponsive/frozen, press and hold the Power button (located on the top-left edge) for approximately 10 seconds or until the device power cycles.
b .Press and hold the Volume Up button (located to the right of the Power button; ensure right side of button is pressed) and the Home button (located at the bottom in the middle). While holding the Home and Volume Up buttons, press and hold the Power button until 'RECOVERY BOOTING' appears in the upper left then release all buttons.
c. Select wipe cache partition.
Note Utilize the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.
d. Select reboot system now.

3. SOLUTION: that worked for me:
1- Go to "Settings" Menu
2- on the top "Settings" Menu, select "General"
3- on the lower left side, select "Power Saving"
4- on the upper right side, Enable the "Power Saving Mode" -> turn it green
5- click on "Power Saving Mode" , Enable "Restrict Performance" -> turn it green
*********************************
4. remove the back and take out the battery for a few minutes, after putting the battery back in and making sure that the battery connection is firmly home, the problem was gone, it's been several weeks and the flicker and reboot no longer happens
