Samsung looks to reduce its reliance on Googles' Android operating system.

Bloomberg reports that Samsung is looking to reduce its reliance on Android powered devices, especially smartphones, following Google's acquisition of Motorola.

While some reports elsewhere on the web have suggested that Samsung is looking to move away from Android, the actual report only states Samsung's intended use of the Intel backed Tizen operating system on some devices, starting with a smartphone, in a move designed to give the company a broader base and further opportunities to grow its already significant 35% share of the smartphone market. Apple, to give a comparison, currently enjoy a mere 17% of the market.

"We plan to release new, competitive Tizen devices within this year and will keep expanding the lineup depending on market conditions,” Suwon, South Korea-based Samsung said in an e-mailed statement on January 3rd 2013. The company didn’t elaborate on model specifications, prices or timeframe for their debut.
