Using a Tablet in the Classroom

    Hey guys

Little background information. I'm a primary school teacher in Auckland, New Zealand. One of the big reasons why I wanted a tablet was because I thought it would be a great addition in the classroom. Apps like google body just seem so good for learning!

I have a blog that details experiences with using a tablet in the classroom. (I love the screen capture button!)

If you are interested, go take a look. If you know of others that might enjoy it, show it to them. Thanks for looking.

I surf on the ipad sister site to this one and a large number of the members there are teachers looking for ways to integrate their device into the class room as well. My sister is a teacher of the mentally handicapped and has been able to use her ipad extensively. With the addition of Flash based games we enjoy, the ability to do so is even greater , especially for the younger children. Apple developers have seen the market for educational apps and Android developers for Honeycomb are starting to add them as well.
I really like the idea of making the best use of today's technologies in the education system.
When I was in school was before desktop computers were prevalent in the home and were not in the class room at all so when I got my first I was way behind the curve , which hurt me in the workplace as well as home. My kids had to show me how to turn the darn thing on and off and copy/paste was a major accomplishment. It took me years to be able to grasp the concept of computers after owning one and only getting a Windows smartphone opened my mind to the concept. Introducing kids to the technology gives them a head start in the business world of tomorrow imo

Have you tried Kid Mode app? The part about the boy who learning English reminded me of a game that is learning to count to 10 in Chinese but there are a lot of games, videos, etc to choose from within the app

Yeah, there are a lot of apps and such. It is how do I implement it in the classroom that

    1) doesn't make it unfair on the kids
    2) isn't just a babysitter
    3) does it require teacher help?

I'll download kids app and take a look later.

    Cheers
