    (fixed) Got Rid of Virus!

So, I'm pretty good when it comes to fixing computers, that is PC's. have little to no experience with mobile devices. My dad has a SGH-1497 and somehow ended up unwittingly downloading and installing the FBI Ransomware/Porndroid virus. I figured, oh ok no problem just go to safe mode and uninstall. Problem is when I got to the "Porndroid" app the uninstall button is greyed out. So I look up some other solutions and go ahead and delete the download that my father opened that ended up installing this virus as well as going into the security settings and disabling the ability to install third-party apps. No joy. Went into the security settings to remove porndroid as a device administrator. Porndroid didn't even show up in the list of device administrators, only one app in that list and it was unchecked. So I went ahead and installed AVG Ransomware remover from safe mode, problem is you can't run it in safe mode. This is why I hate mobile devices. Can't even do the most basic things that you would be able to do with a full featured PC without jumping trough a million hoops. So I went for broke and figured I'd do a factory reset. Somehow I end up in a screen asking me whether I want to install a custom os. Me being the idiot/curious fella that I am and went ahead and pressed yes figuring I'd kill two birds with one stone (figure out what this custom OS is as well as erase everything on the tablet including the virus). Problem is the thing switched to a screen saying "installing/downloading os" (don't remmber I'm not sure) and "do not turn off". That was on for two hours. I finally lost my patience and turned it off figuring I'd just do a factory reset. Did the factory reset and it seemed to go succesfully. But then it would turn on (samsung screen then at&t screen) and freeze on the At&t tried going into safe mode multiple times but same thing occured. Then I just gave up and figured I'd fix it tommorrow. Problem was every time I turned it off it would turn back on and freeze on the AT&T splash so I unplugged it and let the batteries drain. Now it won't even show the samsung splash. Whenever I turn it on it the screen turns on to a blank (all black screen). no safe mode, no download mode. And I don't have a windows PC to connect it to. This is a linux PC.

Update: After a bit of chargin I was able to acces recovery mode and do another factory reset. Everything's working fine now.

Welcome to the forum Nuggetmatic! That was quite a ride your Tab 2 took you on. Really glad that everything is A-OK now. I realize that you were pretty upset when you wrote this, but I edited out the curse words you implied. They are not permitted on this forum (family friendly!), even when masked with @$%#. You can check out the Guidelines of Conduct in the link in my signature. BTW - this is a great place to learn about the intricacies of the Android OS.
