Welcome to the site. Yes, sounds to me like you need a new battery.

Welcome to the forum 10.1! How long have you had the tablet, still under warranty? Before you invest in a new battery, you might want to try recalibrating the battery, and see if that helps. Check out the lin in my signature.

10.1, from the link in my signature, http://www.galaxytabforums.net/forum...intenance.html
If you have a tablet that is not reporting full charge levels, or inaccurate charge levels, a couple of full "low battery - recharge to full" cycles will invariably resolve that issue.

It will work best if you connect the tablet to the a/c charger and then power off the tablet. This enables the battery to charge without any need for it to maintain a powered on device. So the process would be...

    Tablet reports "low battery"
Promptly finish whatever you were doing
    Connect to the a/c charger
    Switch on the a/c power
Power off the tablet until the device is fully charged.
Do this a few times, and it's actually recommended repeating the process every 8-12 weeks to keep it calibrated.

I recommend reading through the battery/charging guide thread that SS referred to - it explains in some detail how to check all the possibilities...
    Charger, cable, calibration - etc.

A/C is short for "alternating current" - in other words "plug your tablet into the charger & turn on the electricity to charge your device"

It is unlikely that your tablet battery needs replacing - it is far more likely that you have an issue with either the software reporting of your battery state, or that your charger is not the original Samsung charger or if it is that it has developed a fault.

    All the best
