    dhcp ip address clash

    Hi,

My missus got a new phone, and a new samsung galaxy tab (GT-P3110) nice tablet

Anyway, my router went down (power outage), when it rebooted, my PC notified me of an IP address clash, 2 devices using the same IP... I went to the router page, and checked the devices connected...

    MY-PC - 192.168.0.2 (PC)
    Android - 192.168.0.3 (Phone)
    OLD-PC - 192.168.0.4 (PC)
    Android - 192.168.0.2 (tablet)

As you see, the tablet has used an already existing IP even though the settings are for DHCP

What causes this, and how do I fix it?

As a work-around I set the tablet to static, 192.168.0.9 and it seems to work fine.

    TIA

    Rev

    Welcome to the forum

That does happen, though it should be rare. If you restart either the PC (the .2) or the tablet it should correct itself. If not you could tap the connection and tell it "forget" then connect again or use fixed IP for your WiFi connection.

Tried turning the tablet off, same result
Tried to forget the connection, then rescan-connect, same result
it seems the dhcp client is somehow using the same ip regardless.
will reserve an ip on the router specifically for the tablet, that'll sort it

There must be an issue in the router that is limiting the DHCP but your plan is a good one. If it doesn't work you can still put fixed information in your connection and use something like .5 for the last octet.
