galaxy note 10.1 external sd card

hi everyone i am very new to this and not that technically minded so if anyone can help it would be great. I purchased a Galaxy note 10.1 16g whilst on holiday in Australia. I purchased a 64 gig sd card to put films that i have downloaded to free up some of the memory on the device. i can play all movies on the device but when i transfer them to the sd card it will transfer all movies but only play 3 movies and the rest it just says cant open this file. after copying the movies to the sd card i have checked and they still play on the device just not the sd card. I have since purchesd a 32 gig sd card and still the same issue.
any help would need to be explained in very simple english terms please

    peter

Hi Pete and welcome to the forum
There is a possibility that there is a problem with the SD card but try Mobo Player or MX Player to see if they work before jumping to conclusions.

another good app to try is dice player (in the store also). it seems to work on lots of formats, etc. just another suggestion. i sometimes have to try several players before i can get a particular file to play, so don't give up. mobo, mx and dice are the most often used, but by no means the only ones.

    A suggestion.
Format the sd cards via the device.
    2 questions.
What class is the card, in other words whats the transfer speed.
What make you think a 64Gb will work?
When u say external, do u mean plugged in to the bottom slot via an adapter or the micro sd slot on top

not to steal the thread, but a 64gb micro sd will definitely work. i have been using a class 4 64gb micro in both my xoom tablet and my note 10.1 without any problems and without any noticeable deterioration in speed of access. every video i have loaded to it and viewed works perfectly. all data transfer seem to function properly also.
