How to Import an Epub File
Hi--I'm a new Galaxy Tab owner and have been exploring it and trying to get everything working for me--I'll probably have a few more questions in the next few weeks, but here's the first--
One of the things that I'll be using my tablet for is as an e-reader to replace my Nook Color--I downloaded the Nook Android app and have imported a bunch of books from my Nook library--I have one book in epub format, however, that I didn't get from Barnes & Noble--As I recall, I found it for a little less $$ elsewhere, but I'm darned if I can remember where so I can't pull it to my Galaxy from B&N online--I'm storing it on my laptop and tried to just send it to my gmail account as an e-mail attachment but the only button that appears on the attachment is "Info" and when tapped, it says "No app can open this attachment for viewing"--I know that the Nook app opens epub files 'cause that's the format that all of my B&N purchases are and I also thought that the ebook app that came pre-installed would use epub so I don't understand that message--
Any suggestions as to how I can add this book to my library on the Galaxy would be greatly appreciated--C

I have Windows 7 on my computer, and I just connect my Tab to a USB port on the computer. Then, using Windows Explorer, I drag and drop epub files from the computer to the Tab. If you haven't download Astro File Manager from Google Play (formerly the Android Market), do so. It will allow you to create new folders on the Tab. Then you can drop the files into the desired folder. Also, are your pub files DRM protected? If so, you still may not be able to open them.

Thanks for the info, Ken--
I followed your advice and downloaded and installed the Astro File Manager as you advised--Looks like something that I'll use alot--Thanks!
I, too, run Windows 7 on my laptop--When I connect the tablet via the USB, it charges, but I don't see the tablet showing up in the Windows Explorer tree as I would a flash drive etc--It also doesn't show up as a USB device attached to the computer in the systray--What am I doing wrong?--
Also, how would I know if this book is DRM protected?--C

If I remember correctly, the Nook software only recognized manually added ePub files if they end up in a specific folder... Put them in the Nook/My Documents folder, and they should show up.
When you attach the tablet, it might show up using MTP. Take a look under your My Computer icon, at the bottom. It won't have a drive letter, but you should be able to explore it. Let us know how thins work out...

When my Tab is plugged in to a USB port, it does not show up as a Drive letter but rather as GT-P7510. When I click on it, many sub-folders appear. Then I can drag and drop quite easily.
Charging your Tab while plugged into a USB port will take forever. Use the USB cable and adapter plug that came with your Tab. Turn it off (best time is at night when you go to bed) and then plug it in to an outlet. It should be fully charged in the morning.
If you have not discovered the program called Calibre, check it out. It is FREE and it is used to organize your e-books. It will also very easily convert files from one format to another. However, if the file is DRM protected, Calibre cannot work with it. Most popular commercially produced books are DRM protected, but there are hundreds of titles that are DRM-free. Calibre has a separate site listing DRM-free books. calibre - E-book management

Again, thank you, Ken--I do appreciate that you're taking the time to respond do me--
My tablet simply does not show up in the Windows Explorer tree or under My Computer under any naming convention--It's just not there--Which leads me to another question which may or may not be stupid but I just gotta.....
There isn't more than one kind of USB cable to connect, is there?--Like one for charging (which, by the way, I agree would be way too slow, I was just confirming that it is, indeed, connecting) and another for data transfer?--There isn't, is there?--
I'm starting to think that I need to pack the Galaxy and the laptop up and take them in where I bought the tab and let them show me what's what--'Cause I'm really stumped by this one--C

The USB cable with the wide connector on the other end, which plugs into the port on the bottom of the Tab, is the only cable I use. Any time I connect a USB device into my computer (I'm talking my large HP Pavilion desktop), a window pops up showing the new device. And just now I plugged it into my HP Pavilion laptop (for the first time), and after an icon appeared stating that device software was being installed, the new "drive" GT-P7510 appeared in Windows Explorer. I'm not sure why your laptop is not recognizing your tab. Good luck.

I had the same problem when I first got my tab. The problem is that your computer could not find the correct device driver in it's library. The solution is easy - download a new device driver from Samsung(click the software tab). Store it in a convenient folder and then open it to add the driver to your computer's library. Then , the next time you plug your tab in, it will be recognized and the driver installed.
The tab will appear as a P7510 phone in My Computer. It will not have a drive letter and will not appear in windows explorer file tree. To move files, open the icon and drag and drop . Hope this helps. Good luck.
