    Unfortunately, <app name> Has Stopped

I've had my galaxy tab 2 10.1 for a month now. I haven't had any issues until this morning. When I tried to use Chrome this morning and enter in a URL, I got the message "Unfortunately, Chrome has stopped." and the app quit. After a couple more attempts, I tried the Internet app, which gave me the same result. Crap. Tried my IM client and same thing after trying to use it. The apps will start, but if I try to interact with the UI, it will eventually give me that message that "Unfortunately, <app name> has stopped." and quit.

I've tried rebooting. I've tried playing around in the settings, clearing cache, shutting down tasks. I can't even use the terminal to see what processes are running, because as soon as I try to type something "Unfortunately, terminal has stopped."

I can't think of anything else to do than to do a factory reset on the device. I really would rather not do this since it took me awhile to install and configure the apps I have. I've really liked this tablet until today.

Has anyone run into this issue and know how to resolve it?

Instead of a normal power down and reboot try this. With the Tab on, hold the power button until it powers down, about 20-30 seconds. It should then power itself back up. It's another form of reset short of a factory reset and doesn't delete any data, settings or apps.

Thanks for the response! I did actually try this before, based on some other threads for different issues. I held the power button on for 30 seconds, which I think caused it to go into reset several times (saw the splash screen come up 3-4 times). Unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue. I'm losing hope.

if you can get play to work, download and alternative launcher and see if that lets you launch the apps

Again, I appreciate the suggestions! I really don't want to do a factory reset.

I do have the ability open the play store, but when I try to search for anything, it quits saying "Unfortunately, play store has closed."

I read in another forum someone having issues whenever they used the samsung keyboard configuration on a galaxy tab. I have found this keyboard setting in the settings menu, but it seems to be the only option. I don't know if this is related to my issue, but the apps do seem to close whenever I'm trying to type something in (whenever a keyboard would pop up). For instance, when I click on the URL bar in a browser, app closes. When I try to do a search, app closes.

More info: I have not messed around with putting a non-stock android OS on the tablet, nor have I used any apps that weren't from the play store.

This forum thread gave me the keyboard idea:
all apps crash upon opening any data text field for keyboard entry

Hi guys, I had the same problem... did the factory reset after trying everything else I could think of. It's been working fine til today and unfortunately, I've had to do another factory reset... is this a recurring problem? Is it unique to certain devices or is it common on tab2?

Are you using the stock launcher? The user interface that came stock with the Tab.
If so may I suggest you try Go Launcher or Nova Launcher, install it, reboot the Tab and see if it stops?
I found on mine once I stopped using the stock launcher the errors and freezing stopped.

Same here. Factory reset is the only option I found out and all data is gone, works for about a month and then crashes again when you least expect it. It happened with my Galaxy Ace, the Galaxy Tab 2 and it always happens when I am away from home. I don't understand Samsung even dares to sell this crap. Had enough.... Next tablet will be an iPad... Enough is enough. So do a factory reset and you will be 'fine' for a month or so... Then you will start having problems again...

SAMSUNG, ARE YOU READING THIS? WHERE IS MY JELLYBEAN UPDATE AND WHY DO YOU EVEN PUT YOUR NAME ON JUNK LIKE THIS!

    Hi everyone,

I had the exact same problem and have found a solution that works for me without factory reset, so I wanted to share it - it might work for other people too.
The solution is to clear the clipboard - it seems that the clipboard can crash the keyboard for some reason.
To clear the clipboard you can use an app or clear the /data/clipboard folder. (as I did). To do this you have to root the device and delete the the directory and recreate it.
After this everything works just fine.

If you don't know how to root android device or delete a folder - you can look it up, there is plenty of information about this.

    Kind Regards

    PS
A workaround to install new apps ( for instance SuperUser for root privileges) when everything is crashing is to send yourself an email with the link to the app. On the device open your gmail app and just click the link - you can install the app without having to search for it.
